Hello 6th - 8th grade families!

Happy Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Please check this week's Eagle Weekly for the fun dress up spirit days this week.

Campus Stuff:

If you're looking for a church home or a place to worship, please join us for our traditional services on Saturdays at 5:00pm, or Sunday at 8:00am, or at our contemporary services on Sundays at 9:30am or 10:30am. I like the 9:30am service myself, and you will usually find me in the back row so feel free to say hi.

Class notes

This Week in 6th Grade

We are studying Ratios and Proportional Reasoning. The test is scheduled for Tuesday! We took a practice test on Thursday and overall it wasn't bad but I was able to get an authentic look at areas we need to focus on before we test. Using Ratio Tables really stood out as an area of weakness. Ratios and proportions will be the main focus of 6th and 7th grade math.

Note: The Quizi is due on Tuesday morning at 8:00am. It is the best practice that I can come up with and students are encouraged to attempt it multiple times.

Next up: Decimals, Fractions, and Percent!

What are we learning?: How can we compare quantities of numbers and what does it mean?

  • Monday: Ratio Table Practice

  • Tuesday: Chapter 1 Test

  • Wednesday: 2-1 Decimals and Fractions

  • Thursday: 2-2 Percents and Fractions

  • Friday: 2-3 Percents and Decimals

6th Grade Class Notes can be found here.

This Week in 7th Grade

We have finished our study of exponents and roots. The test is scheduled for Wednesday!!! The Quizi is due on Wednesday morning at 8:00am. Exponents play by their own set of rules and we will visit them again soon, but these guys are doing a fantastic job with them.

What are we learning?: How can we write numbers in different ways and why would we want to do that?

  • Monday: Chapter 4 Practice Test

  • Tuesday: Chapter 4 Practice

  • Wednesday: Chapter 4 Test

  • Thursday: Intro Chapter - Ratio, Proportion, and Similar Figures

  • Friday: 5-1 Ratios

7th Grade Class Notes can be found here.

This Week in 8th Grade

We will continue our study of graphing linear functions and learning our first forms. We learned how to find the slope of a line, and how to use the slope-intercept formula to graph functions. We will be finishing up piecewise functions and will review and have our next test on Friday.

What are we learning?: How to solve algebraic equations. How can math symbols be useful?

  • Monday: 3-8 Absolute Value Functions

  • Tuesday: Chapter 3 Quizi

  • Wednesday: Chapter 3 Practice

  • Thursday: Chapter 3 Practice

  • Friday: Chapter 3 Test

8th Grade Class Notes can be found here.

So, you talked throughout the lesson and now your math doesn't math.

Other Reminders:

Just remember Google Classroom is where everything is at. Your child's passwords are all on the first page of their planner so please feel free to copy those down and peek through their accounts often. Here is a video on how to navigate Google Classroom: https://youtu.be/qoOe3ir5iqQ

IXL grading is a little different from other assignments. A 90% "smart score" in IXL is equivalent to 100% in FastDirect. Anything over a 90% is worth up to one bonus point...they add up so I encourage students to try it (especially on the easier assignments).
